March 4, 2023: The Czech Republic Tested: Thirty Years after the Velvet Revolution

Czech Café in Boston invites you to a discussion with the epidemiologist Petr Smejkal (IKEM Prague and Maine Coastal Memorial Hospital) about the Czech Response to Covid and the ways the epidemic “tested” the Czech democracy.

Petr Smejkal works as infectious disease and infection control chair at IKEM in Prague and at the Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. He studied at the 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University and at Columbia University. He worked as the Head Physician at the Department of Infectious Diseases at the Central Military Hospital in Prague. He is the founder of the HIV/AIDS Center at the Central Military Hospital, and also founded the advisory group MeSES (Mezioborova skupina pro epidemické situace) that advised the Czech government and Health Ministry during the COVID pandemic.
